2. Purpose and legal basis
- This competition is organised to promote and popularise sport carp angling and amateur rod fishing, to nurture the amateur spirit, to bring amateur anglers together and to develop a culture of competition.
- The competition will be held in accordance with Fisheries Law No. 1380, the Fisheries Regulation and Communiqué No. 6/2 regulating recreational fishing.
3. General competition rules
- There is no entry fee.
- The competition is for carp only. The minimum accepted fish length is 40 cm. Until measured, caught fish must be kept alive in a carp sack. Caught fish will be recorded by the panel of referees; neighbouring sectors may act as observers. After processing, the fish will be returned to the water.
- The competition area is arranged as 20 sectors.
- A team consists of a captain and at least 3, at most 4 people in total.
- Each team may use a maximum of 4 rod set-ups during the competition. Having more rods in the water is grounds for disqualification.
- Each rod may carry a maximum of 1 hook.
- Each team will compete in the sector it draws by lot from fishing areas that have been determined and numbered in advance. If deemed necessary, the number of sectors may be reduced or increased.
- Baiting may be done by hand and with a throwing stick. Rockets and similar baiting devices that make noise when they hit the water may not be used. A remote-controlled bait boat may be used; inflatable boats may not.
- Each team may use a maximum of 10 kg of assorted carp bait per day.
- PVA bags may be used when baiting.
- Live baits such as fish, frogs, worms or leeches, as well as pulp-based and spring-type rod set-ups, are strictly prohibited. Only dough mixes, boilies, boiled seeds (corn, chickpeas, etc.), pellets and similar baits may be used.
- The gaps between sectors may be used only while landing a fish along the shore.
- Competitors must cast perpendicular to the shore.
- Each team must have carp tackle suitable for sport angling, a landing net, an unhooking mat and at least 3 carp sacks.
- Throughout the competition, competitors may enter the water no deeper than knee level, and only to net a fish and return it to the water. Entering the water for any other reason is strictly prohibited; violators are disqualified.
- Competitors’ personal safety is their own responsibility. Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, the Balıkesir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and the State Hydraulic Works 25th Regional Directorate cannot be held liable in this respect.
- Lighting fires other than a barbecue used for cooking, using intoxicating substances, shouting, speaking loudly and playing disturbing music are prohibited. Competitors must stay as quiet as possible.
- Teams that act against the rules will be disqualified from the competition.
- Rubbish must be placed in the designated bins or area at the end of the competition.
4. Draw and sector assignment procedure
- To ensure that sector allocation is carried out with full transparency and fairness, the draw is held in two stages.
- Stage one – order draw: All participating teams draw to determine their turn order in the sector draw.
- One “JOKER” will be added to the order-draw bag/box.
- Joker right: The team that draws the Joker may directly choose the sector it wants to compete in, without waiting for the second-stage draw.
- Stage two – sector draw: The sector number chosen by the Joker team is removed from the sector-draw bag/box.
- All remaining teams draw in the order obtained in the first stage and determine their remaining sectors.
- Objections and changes: The sectors determined by the draw are final.
5. Categories and scoring
- In the biggest-fish category, the weight of the fish is decisive. If weights are equal, the fish are measured in centimetres and the longer one ranks first. In this category only a first-place prize, trophy and medal will be awarded.
- The team ranking first in the most-kilograms category will receive a prize, trophy and medal.
- If the total weights of the fish caught are equal, the team with fewer fish ranks higher.
- The competitor who catches the first fish that meets the standards will receive a prize and a medal.
- The main ranking is determined by a points system. The points teams earn in the most-fish (kg) and biggest-fish (kg) rankings are added to calculate a total score, and the main ranking is made according to the total score.
- The team ranking first in each of the most-kilograms and biggest-fish categories receives as many points as there are teams in the competition. For example, if 20 teams compete, first place receives 20 points, second 19, third 18, and so on.
- Teams are ranked by the sum of the points they earn in the most-kilograms and biggest-fish categories.
- If teams’ points are equal, the team with the higher score in the most-fish category ranks higher.
- Teams placing first, second and third in this category will receive sponsor prizes, a trophy and a medal.
6. Prize distribution and order of priority
Except for the “First Fish” category, the prizes in the categories listed in this article are distributed to different teams. If a team places or wins in more than one category, it receives only the prize of the category highest in the order of priority.
The following order of priority applies in prize distribution:
- The team ranking first in the total points ranking,
- The team ranking second in the total points ranking,
- The team ranking third in the total points ranking,
- The team ranking first in the most-kilograms category,
- The team ranking first in the biggest-fish category.
If a team that has earned a prize in a higher-priority category also qualifies for a prize in a lower-priority category, the prize of that lower category goes to the next team in that category’s ranking that has not yet received a prize under this article. This continues until a different team qualifying for a prize in that category is found.
The prize in the “First Fish” category is excluded from the limitation above and is awarded separately to the winning team that meets the category’s conditions.
Prizes are distributed by the Competition Committee in accordance with the order of priority and principles set out in this article.
7. Measuring, weighing and handing over fish
- When calculating the weight and length of fish caught by teams, the measurements taken by the referees will be decisive. Fish that are not weighed and measured in the presence of a referee will not be counted.
- To allow fish hooked before the 12:00 finish time to be landed safely, the necessary extra time will be given under referee supervision.
- If ecologically harmful fish are caught, they will not be returned to the water. Their species and numbers will be handed over in writing to the representatives assigned by the District Directorate of Agriculture for the duration of the competition.
8. Receiving guests and leaving the sector
- So that the order of the competition and the concentration of competitors are not disturbed, guest visits may take place between 09:00 and 19:00. During these hours each team may receive guests by informing the referees in advance and obtaining their approval. Receiving guests without notifying the referees is strictly prohibited.
- Teams entitled to take part may not leave the sector allocated to them or the competition area from the official start to the finish. Except in cases of necessity, a team may not abandon the competition and vacate its sector entirely.
- If a team member must leave the sector for a compelling reason, the Zone Referee must be informed in advance and approval obtained. The whole team may leave the sector only with the approval of the Competition Committee.
- Teams that leave the competition before it ends without the permission of the Competition Committee are deemed to have withdrawn voluntarily and are banned indefinitely from all competitions organised by the organiser.
9. Drones and audio-visual recordings
- No competitor, institution or media organisation (TV channels, newspapers, etc.) may use a drone (unmanned aerial vehicle) in the competition area without the knowledge and permission of the Competition Executive Committee. All flights and aerial filming without permission are strictly prohibited. If a violation is detected, disqualification, removal from the area or administrative sanctions may be applied to the person or institution concerned.
- Drone filming may only be carried out by the organisation’s official media team, at the times and in the areas determined by the committee.
- All competitors are deemed to have accepted that photographs, video, drone footage, camera recordings, interviews, live broadcasts and similar audio-visual material produced during the competition may be used indefinitely and free of charge in the organisation’s promotion, archive, social media, website, press, sponsorship and corporate communication activities.
10. Conduct, prizes and the organisation’s reputation
- Teams and team members who, on the grounds of disliking the prizes announced after the competition, make statements, posts or run campaigns that damage the reputation of the organisation, its sponsors or the competition are banned indefinitely from all competitions organised by the organiser.
11. Application and registration
- Priority will be given to teams that took part in our 2025 competition and declare that they will take part in the 2026 competition.
- If the quota is not filled, teams that are present on Sunday 25 October 2026 and are eligible to take part will be included in the competition.
12. Acceptance and liability
- Competitors are deemed to have read, understood and accepted in advance this specification, the disclaimer provisions, the acceptance of risk, the force majeure provisions and the provisions on the use of personal data and images.
